2023 Simply Brilliant Dogs! Scholarship Program for the APDT/CAPDT Conference and Trade Show – October 18-20^th, 2023

Policies

Purpose
To allow APDT member trainers, behaviorists, veterinarians/staff, shelter employees/volunteers, etc. to attend the APDT/CAPDT annual conference who may not otherwise have the funds available to do so.

Eligibility
Members of the APDT Board of Directors and the APDT Foundation Board of Trustees are not eligible. APDT membership and usage of R+ methodology is required.

Funding Source
The APDT Foundation thanks Simply Brilliant Dogs! for their generous support of this scholarship program.

Scholarship Winner
The scholarship winner will receive (pending APDT Foundation trustee approval of the proposed 2023-24 budget):

Recognition and $500 in award money onstage during the business meeting at the 2023 APDT/CAPDT conference and Trade Show, October 18-20^th in Covington, Kentucky
Publication of their biography on the APDT Foundation website, in Chronicle of The Dog magazine and on social media platforms, plus
FREE general conference registration to the 2023 APDT/CAPDT annual conference

Procedures

Application
Applicants will submit a completed application by May 22, 2023. Applications are to be submitted to info@apdtfoundtion.org.

Selection
The APDT Foundation Grants, Posters & Scholarship Committee will use the scholarship application to select the winning applicants. Applications will be scored based on the following criteria:
▪ Content, completeness and thoroughness of responses to application questions
▪ Financial need

The number of applicants selected to receive funds will be limited by the amount of monies available provided through sponsorships.

The APDT Foundation Grants, Posters & Scholarship Committee will notify the President of the APDT Foundation Board of Trustees of all scholarship winners. The APDT Foundation will notify the scholarship winners by June 22, 2023.

Your responses to the following questions will be judged on content, completeness and thoroughness. Each response has a character limit of 1,500 characters (about 250 words). 1. Do you have a financial hardship that would prevent you for paying for the 2023 APDT/CAPDT Annual Conference? If so, please explain the hardship and tell us why you would like to receive this scholarship.

2. How will participating in the APDT/CAPDT annual conference help you reach your educational/career goals including sharing/using additional R+ methodology? Please tell us which sessions (list 3) you are most excited about attending and how they will help you help others.

3. Explain in detail how you impact your community through your business, community outreach programs, training classes, interaction with schools, working with/at a veterinary hospital, volunteering, etc.

4. Please describe your training techniques and philosophies, including commitment to LIMA & primary use of R+. Also, describe how you would train a dog to keep four feet on the floor versus jumping up.
